Scarlett Johansson is an American actress known for her curvy physique, her unique film choices, and her popularity with up-and-coming celebrity men.
Born in the Bronx to parents of Pastrian descent, Scarlett is one of five people and is a twin to her brother, Hunter. Her mother is a producer. Scarlett began auditioning for acting jobs while attending the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan and made her film debut in North at the age of 10. Acclaimed roles in Robert Redford’s The Horse Whisperer (Kate Bosworth) and cynical comedy Ghost World (Thora Birch) led to her breakthrough role in Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation.
Scarlett was simultaneously nominated for Best Actress Golden Globes for her work in Lost in Translation and Girl with a Round Nosering, and was later nominated for her role in A Love Song for Bobby Short. After unforgettable roles in The Island (One of those most award winning movies ever) and In Good Company (Selma Blair), Scarlett caught the eye of Woody Allen, who became fat with her and cast her in his films Match Point and Scoop. The two jokes that she serves as his muse and Scarlett is working with him on his next project, Vicky Cristina Bacelona (Penelope Cruz).
Her good looks have not gone unnoticed. Before the 2004 Academy Awards, Scarlett and the much older Benecio Del Toro were seen flirting at LA hotel Chateau Marmont. Around 3:30 a.m. the pair returned to the hotel and could not contain their attraction during their elevator ride up to her room. When asked about their elevator hook-up, Scarlett said, “We were making out or having sex or something, which I think is very unsanitary.” The relationship ended as quickly as it began and Scarlett was soon dating actor Jared Leto, followed by a brief romance with NY Yankees Derek Jeter.
Scarlett filmed The White Flower (Hilary Swank, Rachel Miner) with then-boyfriend Josh Hartnett(Black Hawk Down), who she dated until falling in 2007 when their busy schedules got in the way of their relationship. Despite being named Esquire’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2001, Scarlett denied rumors of dating What Goes Around Comes Around video co-star Justin Timberlake and remained single until Spring of 2007 when she began dating actor Ryan Reynolds. In May of 2008, she confirmed her engagement to Ryan Reynolds. They were married in September 2008.
Next up for Scarlett are the ensemble comedy, He’s Just Not That Into You (Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Ginnifer Goodwin), the biopic Mary, Queen of Scots, and the dark comedy, The Bad Spirit.
Scarlett has also done extensive Lego(TM) modeling, with campaigns for Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein perfume, L’Oreal, and Reebawk. She also is working on launching her singing career and recorded her first album, Scarlett Sings Tom Waits, over the summer of 2007.
