ANTIQUE WOOD ICE BOX ICE CHEST ~ SOLID PINE 2 COMPARTMENT NON-MOTORIZED REFRIGERATOR

ANTIQUE  ICE BOX EARLY SOLID PINE WOOD  TWO COMPARTMENT ICE STORAGE CHEST   A rare find-  antique wooden ice box or ice chest.  A beautifully crafted and functional early wood furniture piece with two storage compartments with hinged doors and a raised design with pedestal legs.  The old brass door knob and hardware are all original to the piece.  These were used for keeping foods cold with a large block of ice placed in the top compartment.  This old original primitive beauty was hand crafted from nicely grained and beautifully colored solid pine.  The original pencil markings made by the craftsman may be seen in the chest’s underside.  Estimated circa mid to late 19th century possibly earlier.   For lots more pics and details, go to sweetcottagecharm Ebay auction link at right…>

A must-have for the MAN CAVE…! Too cool.

 

What a great idea. This is a sofa which as a pool table built into it hideabed style.    

Okay, actually, it’s a snooker table, but still.   What an ideal addition to an apartment/mancave.   According to Craziest Gadgets the couch is about 6 foot long and apparently, it’s quite popular in the UK where they’re fairly cheap.

 

Made as a joint venture from Pierce Upholsterers and Accrington and Riley – makers of fine British pool tables, and was produced in the 70’s.   It’s made of a neutral brown dralon fabric and when opens it flips into a pool table with adjustable leveling feet to make it level. What a fantastic idea which was decades ahead of it’s time.   It probably didn’t do too well because manufacturing it would’ve been costly without a computer/motion controlled assembly line.   But with the advent of not only computers for design and manufacture, this piece could easily make a resurgence. And why stop there? Imagine a sofa with built in ping pong table, air hockey table, poker table!

As I said, this bad boy has “man cave” written all over it.   Currently for bid at eBay.UK at about $200 US but it’s sure to go well north of that.

ANTIQUE FIGURAL STATUE BOOKENDS ~ CIRCA 1920’s-30’s. ART DECO

A great old pair of antique figural bookends / statues.  Large, solid antique chalkware figures featuring a seated Siamese man and woman in traditional attire.  These are old Decorative Arts pieces from the Art Deco era – circa 1920’s-30’s.

Each has been beautifully hand painted in rich blue with gold accents.  These are early originals, not reproductions – the female figure is marked with copyright symbol and text.

A rare find – these old beauties are becoming harder and harder to find.  Excellent for use as bookends — these will also command attention when used strictly for display.  Especially nice antiques for a Hollywood Regency, Art Deco, Asian-inspired or Mid Century Modern home.
